The Sacramento Area Tennis Association (aka SATA) has launched their new "eFlash Newsletter." If you are into tennis, as most of us on this list are, you will want to receive it via email. The signup is easy, and can be done right here.
Our poll last month asked who you thought would be most likely to take Rafa out of the French Open. 47% of you said Roger. I'm pretty sure that if I would have included Robin Soderling in the list of choices, more of you would have said "who?" than those who would have picked him to take down the champ. Amazing.
The Bee ran a couple of good tennis articles with local connections. One was about Michael Chang, who will play in Roseville this summer with the Capitals team. You can read that article here. The other was a nice piece about Folsom resident Dmitry Tursunov, which you can read here. You will need a Bee login, but the signup is free.
Bad news. One of my favorite tennis events, the $50,000 Sacramento Challenger, is cancelled for this year. It's a victim of the economy, as the Sutter Lawn Club struggled to get sponsors. Bummer.
The good news is that there are tons of other tennis events around our area in the coming weeks and months. We are in the heart of the local amateur tournament schedule, so if you like to compete, check out the schedule here. On the pro side, the $15,000 RWI Futures tournament started today, followed by the Natomas $15,000 Futures Tournament next week. Come July, it's Caps season!
Finally, thanks to David Fox for sending me the link to the "if" videos below. It's a great time to be fan of the sport of tennis.
Roger Federer... the best to ever play our sport....
